It’s that website you go to look at how to code, but end up watching random videos like “How Animals Eat their Food"

YouTube just got a new CEO → Neal Mohan.

And he’s an Indian. 🇮🇳

So, break out the mala, the tikka, and the ladoos, like Jaya Bachan from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham because ofc we’re gonna celebrate yet another Indian on the tech company list like a victory for the entire country.

Let’s just hope he lasts longer than Parag Agarwal, that’s not another that’s what she said joke.

But why is the doodhwala talking about the new YouTube CEO?

Because, Mohan is a big support of YouTube 🤝 Web3.

Before he became the CEO, Mohan was the CPO of YouTube.

During this time as the CPO of YouTube, he was in-charge of rolling out new feature on the app and the website specifically for creators.

He launched:

📺 YouTube TV: So that you can watch YouTube on your TV. Wait, who tf uses a TV?!?

💊 YouTube Shorts: So that you can replace drugs with something more addictive

In an old blogpost, Mohan has talked about how he wants to bring Web3 to YouTube with 2️⃣ tools — NFTs and the Metaverse.

Here’s how we think he’ll integrate web3 using these tools into YouTube.

1️⃣ NFTs

NFT for creators. 🎭

For creators, YouTube has already rolled out:

• Super Thanks, Super Chat, Super Stickers

• YouTube Partner Program

• Channel Memberships

• Exclusive doodh drops

All of these ☝️ allow fans to contribute and support their favourite creators.

But it still misses one 🙌 thing.

DIGITAL OWNERSHIP.

When a fan contributes to the creator, the fans wants something to show-off that they’ve contributed. That they’re more special than any other fan. Even the Bajaj fan that’s been in my house since the early 90s.

An NFT allows this.

We’ve seen artists like rappers (Future, Gunna) and bands (Kings of Leon, Linkin Park) drop exclusive NFTs for events, merch and access.

YouTube creators could do the same through NFTs on the blockchain. 👌

This is YouTube going down the Meta + Instagram route by offering NFTs for large creators to sell directly to their audience.

2️⃣ Metaverse

YouTube has long said they wanna be more “immersive” through the Metaverse.

But honestly it was quite boring. I mean, this is all they had to show for it. 👇

But they wanna make the metaverse exciting through gaming.

And GAMING is HUGE on YouTube.

Behind Music, Gaming is the 2nd largest niche on YouTube.

And it’s not just normie games like Call of Duty or Need For Speed (yeah I said it!!) there are weird games like this one 👇

But Mohan doesn’t want to make literal 💩 metaverses like this 👆 but legit ones that’ll allow gamers to build out better + more immersive gaming experiences.

⚽️ Imagine playing actual football with The Sidemen

🪚 Imagine walking through an actual Minecraft field with PewDiePie

🔪 Imagine actually shooting someone’s head off and then looting their bodily remains with Carry Minati.

This would be hella different from Meta’s Metaverse plans which want to focus on basic erryday games like — table tennis and chess.

YouTube could go all out to bring serious gaming experiences to serious game lovers and fans.

BAKC (aka Bored Apes Kennel Club).

It’s Yuga Lab’s NFT collection for the broke bois who can’t afford a BAYC. 🥲

But it’s not cheap CHEAP.

It’s like Apple kinda cheap. (they think 1 lakh rupees for an iPhone is cheap 😭😭😭)

BAKC launched a few months after BAYC in 2021 and it has a current floor price of 8.1 ETH which is around $13.5k. 💰

And it is now in the news for the craziest reason. 😅

• Did somebody buy it for an INSANE amount? Nope.

• Doodhwala x BAKC partnership? Shh. 🤫

• Did Infosys buy a bunch of it? Lol no.

The main logo of this collection seems to have been used without the permission of its original artist.

Yup. The project that’s in a space that protects an artist’s work through NFTs just used an artwork without a license. 😬

But then again, “Good artists copy; great artists steal.” amiritie?

So which great artist did they steal from?

• 3LAU?

• Beeple?

• Jack Butcher?

None of the above. ⛔️

It’s from 3rd grade Timmy. (Bored Ape? More like “bored at school”)

Wait…what? 🤨

So this logo was copied from a LITERAL tutorial titled “How to Draw a Wolf Skull” (no, we are not kiddin’ 🥲)

And this tutorial is made for kids (and adults) who want a step-by-step guide to drawing a wolf skull. 😭

So whoever created this logo for Yuga Labs just googled how to draw a dog skull and clicked on the first link that popped. 😂

And this is an NFT collection with over $115 million in market cap. ☠️

The co-founder of Yuga Lab, Greg Solano, did acknowledge it and has said that the team was completely unaware of this.

He has also said that they will soon be changing the logo everywhere.

But still….this is crazy. 🤯
