LFG π₯

Hereβs the breakdown for today:
π» Biggest Bitcoin Seller
βοΈ A New Marketplace Battle
π The Battle of L2s
π Crypto Project Analysis in a Min!
πΌ $258 Billion Lawsuit
Walking into the new week like:

π» Biggest Bitcoin Seller
9,800 BTC.
That's π how many Bitcoins were sold last month.
The seller?
Elon Musk βMicrostrategy βBalaji Srinivasan β
The government of United States of America β

Yes, the US government sold exactly 9,861 Bitcoins worth $215 million on Coinbase. And they've got 41,800 Bitcoin left with them.
41,800 BTC = $1.1 billion π°
DOODH FACT: The US govt sold the Bitcoin at a price of $21,800 per BTC. If they would've HODLED till the end of March, they could've sold it at a price of $28,000 per token.
This sale is the LARGEST sale of Bitcoin by the US goverment EVER.
Check out all the previous sales by the US government π
Where did the US government get all this Bitcoin from?
Biden and his administration read the Balaji article on the doodhwala last week and immediately went, "Alright, we gotta buy some BTC, it's going to $1 million."
But seriously, they acquired the Bitcoin by catching a hacker. π
And this is not just any hacker β it's the dude behind one of the oldest and biggest crypto hacks ever.
This hacker β James Zhong β hacked the biggest Bitcoin marketplace ever β The Silk Road in 2012.
Wtf is the Silk Road?
The Silk Road is NOT a discount saree shop. It was a marketplace where users could buy drugs, guns, stolen credit cards and hire hitmen. All payments on The Silk Road were done in Bitcoin.
Some stats:
February 2011 β October 2013
1.5 million transactions
9.9 million BTC traded
revenue β 640k BTC
Best selling product β drugs π
But the Silk Road had a BIG problem with its payment infrastructure.
Silk Road held and transferred all Bitcoin between the buyer and the seller in 1 escrow account. It was always the middle man. π€£
So, Zhong listed a bunch of products for sale + services for hire β Got the money for it (from Silk Road) β Never sold anything or serviced anyone.
And he did this 140 TIMES with 9 FAKE ACCOUNTS. π€―
Some of the fake account names were straight up π₯:
thetormentor
suxor
dubba
gribs
s 1 lky

Man was probably getting high on his own supply π¬
Doing this βοΈ Zhong managed to steal over 50,000 BTC from Silk Road in 2012.
9 years later, the US government raided Zhong's house in the US and you won't beleive where they found the Bitcoin:
in hardware wallets kept in an underground safe
on a computer, hidden under blankets of popcorn tins, in the bathroom closet
YESS POPCORN πΏ TINS
This guy really took wallet security seriously! π€£
And now 2 years after seizing the stolen Silk Road Bitcoin from the hacker, the US government FINALLY sold it.

βοΈ A New Marketplace Battle
Weβre not gonna lie to youβ¦
Battles of ANY kind are SUPER FUN! π₯
The Premier League battle between Arsenal, City and United π€
The IPL battle between Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore π€
Best Beverage battle between doodh, paani and juice π€

Even the current NFT marketplace battle between OpenSea and Blur is intense. π₯΅
But a new kinda NFT marketplace battle has started. And it involves $16 MILLION in volume and Balajiβs favv crypto. π
Bitcoin NFT marketplaces. (a.k.a Ordinals Marketplaces) π° Yup.
Bitcoin NFTs have risen to prominence in the past few months.
π€― Current Total Mints β 500k
π° Total Volume β $16 million
π Total Trades β 39.1k
π¨βπ©βπ§ Total Users β 18.46k
And just with any growing trend, the infrastructure around it is growing.
This includes a bunch of Ordinal marketplaces popping up in the past few months:
Gamma
Ordswap
Open Ordex
Ordinals Wallet
ordinals.market

Even Solanaβs biggest NFT marketplace, Magic Eden, decided to take on this growing market by supporting Ordinals.
Magic Eden's Bitcoin Ordinals NFT marketplace launched on March 21st and they are already the TOP Ordinals marketplace. π³
It LITERALLY took them less than 12 days to make it to the #1 spot. π€―
Magic Eden now accounts for over 50% of the TOTAL ordinals volume on all marketplaces.
What did they do differently tho? π€
Nothing.
Except, they were the only pre-existing marketplace among the rest of them.
Every other Ordinal marketplace like β Gamma, Ordswap, etc did not exist before as an NFT marketplace for other chains.
But Magic Eden did. π
1οΈβ£ First β Launched for Solana
2οΈβ£ Then β Added Ethereum and Polygon Support
3οΈβ£ Now β Ordinals Support
Just existing earlier and competing with other marketplaces on other chains gave them a competitive edge in a whole NEW chain where NFT infra is super LOW.
Now imagine what will happen if the #1 and #2 NFT marketplaces in the world decide to take on the Ordinals market. π¬
Blur + OpenSeaβ¦is it inevitable? π€

π Chaach and Charts: The Battle of L2s
Forget Game of Thrones, we've got a new power struggle in town!
Ethereum L2s are π₯ and this month's king is none other than Arbitrum! π
Who needs a royal court when you've got numbers like these?
Check out the leaderboard of Layer 2 networks based on fees collected in
ποΈ March
1β£ Arbitrum β π° 5.95m2β£ Polygon β π° 3.88m3β£ Optimism β π° 2.23m
ποΈ February
1β£ Polygon β π° 5.8m 2β£ Arbitrum β π° 2.9m 3β£ Optimism β π° 1.9m
what's the deal with this L2 reshuffle? π€
In March 2023, due to hype of Arbitrumβs ARB airdrop, transaction volume π allowing the blockchain to collect 2x the fees it collected in the previous month.
This shift could be a sign of major changes in transaction volume and Layer 2 network usage.
Whatever the outcome, one thing's for sure β the L2 race is heating up, and we're all here for the drama! πΏ
Got any predictions for the L2 showdown? (REPLY and let us know) π―
