šŸ¤” How much does a Web3 dev make?

Gm frens, this is the doodhwala. The crypto newsletter that’s like a Thumbs Up ad.

Sallu Bhai may not be here but we will definitely make you taste the crypto thunder. āš”ļø

Its Sunday.ā˜€ļø

You know what that means?

No going to work!

No sitting in traffic!

No sitting in on Zoom meetings and scrolling through Instagram Reels.

That’s for tomorrow.

Today it’s all about sippin’ some taaza doodh and reading your favourite crypto newsletter.

And what are we talking about today?

šŸ‘‰ Getting hired in web3.

Y tho?

We wanna talk to cool web3 buildoors. But like not everyone knows how to become a cool web3 buildoor.

Most people don't even know how to transition into web3.

And we wanna help.

Today we're covering how to get hired for a TECH ROLE in web3.

LFG šŸ”„

More Dough For Tech Bros

Before crypto was all about apes and dogs, it was all about the tech.

Real engineers came together to develop a system that was built around the idea of trustless-ness (is this even a word lol).

And it wasn't just blockchain engineers.

It was all kinds of developers who created this ecosystem.

Even the kind we didn’t know existed. ( I mean, wtf is an Embedded Engineer?)

Here are some of the tech roles that most web3 companies are looking for:

šŸ‘€

  • Full-stack Developers

  • Security Engineer

  • Frontend Developers

  • Backend Developers

  • Mobile Engineers

  • Machine Learning and AI Engineers

And the rarest role of them all - Blockchain Engineers

Blockchain Engineers are the ones who know how to build smart contracts that execute certain actions automatically.

And here’s how much some of these roles get paid on average:

An average Solidity Dev has the potential to make up to Rs.50 Lakhs a year!

That is almost twice as much as any other engineering role.

Why is it so high?

Because finding Blockchain Developers is harder than finding a Sallu Bhai's movie in which he hasn’t removed his shirt.

It has only been a few years since the whole concept of blockchain engineering began and it was mainly engineers figuring it out by themselves.

They had no courses or books to learn from.

No doodhwala to get the juicy crypto info.

Only now, the gyaan around becoming a blockchain developer is increasing.

More devs are exploring this field, both for money and for the technical challenges it provides.

And blockchain companies are gobbling up these talents like its rasgullas.

But what are these companies looking for in an ideal candidate?

The Ideal Tech Bro

Based on questions asked to founders who are part of Buidlers Tribe, here are some of the top qualities that web3 companies look for while hiring :

Curiosity

I know what you might be thinking, ā€œPsst…So cliche! ā€œ

But you honestly gotta have some MAD curiosity even to enter the crypto world, let alone make it here.

You need to be curious enough to show that you taught yourself a whole new skill just because it ached your head to find out how it was done.

You also need to show how you went about teaching yourself this skill.

I mean we all can't have a fun teacher like Aamir Khan in Taare Zameen Par.

This is what pumps the recruiters up and gets them to say, ā€œAssistant, clear out the next interviews. I think we may have found the special one.ā€ šŸ˜Ž

Accountability

You need to display accountability.

Wtf does that mean??

It mean you need to own up to your work, your shortcomings, YOUR LIFE!

You need to be a version of David Goggins who can code.

As it was said in the article by Buidlers Tirbe, you need to be able to say:

ā€œAfter looking at the job post on Twitter, I spent the weekend whipping up a mini-tutorial about automated market makers. I was somewhat familiar with how they worked but needed to dive deeper.

I decided to go all out and try my hand at creating animations, an interactive coding example, and a short explainer video to complement the tutorial.ā€œ

Problem Solving Skills

To get the sweet doodh of being a blockchain engineer, you need to be a serial problem solver.

    What’s a serial problem solver?

When you see a problem out in the wild, walking around with other non-problems, you are good at isolating them.

You isolate them and you attack them. 🄊

Honestly, this is how Einstein viewed problem-solving. If he hadn’t found physics, he’d probably be a serial killer. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

And web3 founders look for this energy in their engineering team.

They look for individuals who are self-reliant and won't bother them with tiny problems.

They want to just find the way, by all means possible.

There are a TON of developers in our country.

Sure, most of them might not be blockchain developers but the numbers are increasing errday.

And being curious, accountable and a serial problem solver will set you apart.
