Pancake Swap.

It's what I do when someone puts anything other than milk on my pancakes!

🍯 Honey? Nah.🍪 Nutella? GTFO.🍌 Bananas? Nah fam.🍁 Maple Syrup? No way.🍦 Whipped Cream? Ru okay?!

Just straight raw doodh for me with my pancakes🥛

But Pancake Swap, the DEX on Binance Smart Chain (and also Ethereum and Aptos) saw a MAJOR change this week.

What Happened?

The Pancake Swap Community launched a proposal to change the tokenomics of CAKE.

• CAKE – Native token of Pancake Swap

• Tokenomics – Fancy schmancy word for the economics of tokens

Wtf is tokenomics?

This change would move CAKE from:

Inflationary → Deflationary

📈 Inflationary = Becoming more expensive with time.

📉 Deflationary = Becoming less expensive with time.

The thing is – in order to make an asset deflationary – its supply is gradually reduced over time.

This ☝️ is exactly what the community wants to do to CAKE.

How will this work?

• ⬇️ Emissions → From 6.6 CAKE to 3 CAKE (per block)

• ⬇️ Staking Yield → From 20% yield to 3-5% yield (per year)

This is expected to bring down the expected supply of CAKE.

But why tho?

See, CAKE is one of the few native tokens of DEXs that have such a high yield on staking:

♦ Ethereum DEXs:

• Uniswap = 0%

• Balancer = 0.32%

• Curve Finance = 1.7%

🟡 Solana’s DEX → Orca = 0%

🔺 Avalanche’s DEX → TraderJoe = 2.2%

Pancake swap wants to bring down the staking yields so that new CAKE tokens are released slower and slower. 🐌

Did the community go for it?

Yes and no.

👍 YESS – CAKE holders.

Over 55% of CAKE voters voted to aggressively reduce staking yields instead of:

• doing a gradual reduction

• doing nothing aka the doodhwala way

👎 NOO – CAKE traders.

During the voting process, CAKE fell by nearly 30% in less than 4 days.

I haven’t seen this much red since I looked at my portfolio about 0.3 seconds ago. 😭

We're no tokenomics experts. But it's kinda cool how everything is happening in an open and community-centric way...unlike...ahem ahem...the changes to the supply of the US dollar.
