🛒 Flipkart’s web3 surprise this Diwali
PLUS: What’s a DEV’s fav blockchain to build on?
Vanakkam, this is the doodhwala. The crypto newsletter that’s as exciting as watching Dhoni hit a six that won India the World Cup.

Even the hardest of the hardcore bros cried a few tears of joy that day. 🥲

Here are the specials for the day:
Flipkart just launched a Metaverse, but it’s got problems 👀
No more “Crypto Devs do something”
Chaach and Charts: Where are the devs building?

Chalo chale! 🥰

Flipkart just launched a Metaverse, but it’s got problems 👀
Have you ever been shopping online for a t-shirt and thought, “Damn, I wish I could try this out on my avatar in the metaverse.”
Yeah, me neither. 🤷♂️
But apparently, Flipkart thinks you would. 🙈
And that’s why the e-commerce company launched a metaverse for online shopping.
Yeah, you read that right — A. SHOPPING. METAVERSE.

The not-so-desi-Amazon (not so 🇮🇳 because it’s owned by 🇺🇸 Walmart and registered in 🇸🇬) is launching Flipverse, its own Metaverse.
Wait, what tf is the Flipverse?
Flipverse is a metaverse where you can experience products sold on Flipkart before buying them.
Here are BIG facts about the Flipverse:
aims to make online shopping more interactive through the metaverse
created 🤝 with eDAO, a namma-Polygon incubated company
will go live on Diwali (Monday, October 24)
💥💥💥
It’ll be used by two kinda people on Flipkart:
1️⃣ Brands
Brands that sell their products on Flipkart can now do crazy product launches to engage customers.
Imagine someone trying out VIP underwear, Campus chappals, or Himalaya’s “aYurVedic” soap, before buying them.
(no lie, these companies are among the first to launch their metaverse products 🤣)
2️⃣ Customers
Customers can create digital twins to try on and experience products before buying them.
Idk about you, but MY digital twin is gonna have the body of Hrithik Roshan and the personality of Rahul Dravid. Basically, the perfect man!
Okay, but what’s the catch?
An iNteRaCtIve shopping experience is not the reason Flipkart created Flipverse.
According to Flipkart, Flipverse will give users access to, “their favorite brands, Supercoins, and digital collectibles.”
This just seems like an continuation of Flipkart Plus, a loyalty campaign that never took off.
But now, it’s got a web3 twist.
Flipkart is like every VC and finance content creator rn, sprinkling some #web3, #metaverse, #NFTs in their name and bio tryna act cool. 😎
What’s next for Flipverse tho?
Will we see Flipkart do a Facebook?
Will we start seeing Flipkart bros walking up to us at web3 meetups and saying “Bro, have you checked out our metaverse? I’ll put you on the whitelist! WAGMI 🚀”
Facebook → META
Flipkart → VERSE
META + VERSE
🧐

Nah, we don't think so.
Why?
Metaverses are a social experience. Shopping is just one of those social experiences.
For a social media company like Facebook (with Occulus and Horizon Worlds) a metaverse makes sense.
For an online company like Flipkart (with Myntra, PhonePe, and Cleartrip) a metaverse doesn’t make sense.
Doodhwala’s take: Flipverse is Flipkart’s amazing market-verse for now, probably not a metaverse tho. But we'll keep an eye on the Flipverse!

NO MORE “Devs do something!”
Since March of this year, the crypto market has been tanking harder than Bollywood’s box office numbers.
But in this bear market, one group of crypto bros is working incredibly hard.
And no, it's not the genius traders. (they are all hibernating till the bull market)
This is the group that’s actually building shit and not just shitposting on Twitter all day (like Do Kwon)
It’s the developers.
Web3 developers seem to be afraid of no bears and are in full-on BUIDL mode.
2022 has been the biggest year for web3 builders.
Don’t believe us? Let’s look at some plain ol’ data then.

Wait…before we get to that, here are the 3 most important metrics to measure dev activity:
Usage of web3.js and ethers.js libraries ( these are used to read blockchain data and interact with it)
Number of verified smart contract deployments
Number of Dapps being built
Alright, NOW let’s look at some data and get the researchoor vibes 🤓
📚 Library Usage
In 2018, 1.4L developers per week downloaded web3.js and ethers.js libraries.
In 2022, a whopping 15.3L devs per week installed these libraries!
That’s a straight 10x increase! 🤯
Either it has an inbuilt auto download feature like those crazy apps or real devs are ACTUALLY using it to build.

🔐 Smart Contracts
In the month of September, the number of smart contracts that were deployed reached an all-time monthly high with over 17k contracts deployed on Ethereum!
And over 1.1L contracts have been deployed in 2022 so far.
And we’re only in October. 🤯
Another shot of steroids and I’m sure the developers will deploy contracts faster than Ajay Devgan can spit out his paan.
And lastly…
🖥 Dapps
The total number of dapps that existed in 2018 was just 1,000.
In 2022, however, the number has increased to 12,495!
Another straight 10x increase.
Some of the most popular apps that were created or deployed on different blockchains this year were 👇 👇 👇

This is definitely a great sign for things to come in web3.
Developer activity is one metric that really matters when looking at the health of any particular technology.
And the web3 space is definitely super healthy rn.
Probably from all the vitamins and minerals from our daily doodh delivery. 😎

Fly Musks - win $MATIC
I was stuck in an auto at Sony Centre Signal.
I was bored. So I opened my phone.
Instead of scrolling Instagram Reels, I went to FlappyMusk and won 3 MATIC (Rs 200).
You can too 👇

Chaach and Charts: Ethereum 🤜 🤛 Solana
We know that web3 developers are building like people who are possessed.
But where exactly are they building?
Which ecosystem and which chains?
This chart shows that Ethereum is still one of the most preferred chains for developers to build on.
But Solana seems to be making its way to the top and giving Ethereum a good challenge.
Which one do you think will prevail in the end?
