👌 Nobel Prize Winner gets schooled

PLUS: Top-5 bridges take 99%

Gm, this is the doodhwala the only crypto newsletter that sticks to its name.

That’s right – we literally milk the crypto world to give you the best deets. 🥛

Here’s what we milking for you today:

  • 🤭 Mr. Krugman, "I told you so"

  • 👷‍♂️ Coinbase: BUIDL Mode On

  • 🤺 Most competitive MARKET on-chain

  • 🛠 DeFi Token Use Cases

  • 🍼 BIG Bitcoin Dump Incoming?

Let’s milk it! 🔥

🤭 Mr. Krugman, "I told you so"

Have you ever had a “I told you so moment”?

We just did with a Nobel Prize-winning economist who dunked on crypto, and it’s hilarious.

Meet Paul Krugman.

He’s what you consider hella smart but hella irritating.

Here’s his resume:

  • PhD. from MIT

  • Author of 27 books

  • Nobel Prize winner in Economics

  • A HUGEE critic of the internet and crypto

Man has had probably the worst prediction in the past 3 decades:

(the 2nd worst prediction is my prediction that cheese on cake will totally not work!)

At the doodhwala, we call people like this Triple Bs –

🧠 Big

🧠 Brained

🧠 Boomers.

Why?

Because despite knowing so much about so many complicated things, they aren’t open to new tech and innovation.

That’s until REALITY hits them in the face. 🙈

This is what happened to Krugman a few days ago:

TLDR:

  • Venmo is a mobile payments app

  • Venmo (probably) flagged Krugman’s account

  • Krugman’s account was suspended and payments stopped

  • Krugman had to call customer support to prove he wasn’t a criminal to get it back up

🤔

Hmmm, if only there was a payments software that didn’t flag users based on their private payments activity.

🤔

Lucky for you Mr. Krugman, crypto (specifically Bitcoin) does exactly this. 🤌

Idk why but Mr. Krugman sounds like a proper name for a James Bond villain

Instead of tryna kill British spies, this Bond villain has been constantly tweeting about the problems with crypto and the people who use it.

We went down Mr. Krugman’s Twitter history to get you the best takes:

Let’s start with – Venmo for electronic payments and crypto for drug and assassination payments. 🤣

Next – Crypto has anonymous transactions🤫

And – Crypto’s only use cases are tax evasion and illegal transactions 🙈

But seriously, Mr. Krugman, here are a few reasons why Bitcoin could be a quick fix for your payment problems:

  • Bitcoin can be used by anyone

  • Bitcoin’s network does not go down

  • Bitcoin can be sent anywhere in the world

  • Bitcoin cannot be controlled by a single party

  • Bitcoin’s requirements are a phone and the internet

We’ll have to admit, Mr. Krugman ain’t shy when it comes to making predictions.

But you never know, some of these ☝️ predictions might end up being as 💩 as the internet take from 1995.

🔵 Coinbase can't stop BUIDLing!

It seems like our boy Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase, has decided to tap into Bob The BUIDLer’s energy for 2023. 🔥

We are only just 65 days into the new year and Coinbase has already launched 2 GIANT products!

And they are both fully dev focused! 🛠

⛓ BASE: An Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain for devs to build on.

👛 WaaS: Wallets for devs to integrate.

We have written all about BASE and the reason behind its name, existence, and purpose here. 🤷‍♂️

But wtf is a WaaS? 🤨

Wallet-As-A-Service.

It’s a set of developer tools that anybody can use to embed a custom wallet into their application. 🤯

And the application can be anything!

  • Games

  • Social Media

  • Dating Apps

  • Astrology Apps (our favv 😉)

We might even use it to add a wallet to this newsletter! Ya never know!

The man behind this is the company's Head of Product for Web3, McGregor.

No, it’s not THAT McGregor. This is a college-educated McGregor. 😅

Their goal is to create a whole supply and demand ecosystem with BASE and Waas. 💰

BASE → Brings in activity into a Web3 application.

WaaS → Creates more wallets and demand for different applications on-chain.

But the BIG question is…

Are these going to be SELF-CUSTODIAL wallets?

i.e. can I keep my private keys to myself?

Or do I have to share it with Coinbase like I share my Netflix passwords with my roommates? 🥲

The answer is YES and NO.

🟢 YES → They use a “multi-party computation” system.

This means the private key is divided among multiple parties, including Coinbase.

🔴 NO → Users can disable this with a “click of a button” and export the private key at any time.

Pretty smart.

Coinbase also intends to take the good ol’ Polygon route with WaaS, when it comes to partnerships. 🟣

This means they will partner with every company— big or small— out there.

From your local chai-sutta shop to your fav MNC. 😅

Doodhwala’s Take:

This is an excellent move by Coinbase.

And the whole “semi” self-custodial aspect is also a smart choice.

Why? 🤨

Cuz’ the goal of WaaS is to remove friction and onboard as many users to Web3 as possible.

Most NEW people might prefer having a “backup plan” in case their phone or app is compromised. 🤷‍♂️

And for the true crypto degens, they can disable the feature anytime and self custody their assets. 😎

It's a WIN-WIN. Don’t ya think?

📈 Chaach and Charts: 99% market – 5 competitors

We live in Bangalore, where getting from one place to another is a pain in the 🍑.

Why?

  • Traffic everywhere

  • Potholes every 10 metres

  • Some idiot tryna read the doodhwala while driving

Say NO to reading and driving 🛑 Even if it’s the doodhwala 🛑

But getting from one blockchain to another is pretty easy, cuz of blockchain bridges.

Tf is a blockchain bridge?

A blockchain bridge, or a cross-chain bridge, connects 2 blockchains allowing users to send and receive crypto from one chain to the other.

But is there one BRIDGE to rule them all?

Lol nope.

The blockchain bridge wars are 🔥 up with SOO many top contenders taking a big share (by transfer volume) of the market.

The chart looks like a weird NFT, but it actually shows how 99% of the market is split almost equally between 4 bridges:

🎈 Hop → 20%

↔️ Across → 22%

🫰 Synapse → 30%

✨ Stargate → 27%

🛠 Resourcewala: DeFi Token Use Cases

Almost every DeFi project has a native token of its own. 💰

But what exactly is this token good for?

Can I buy a cake with my CAKE tokens or uno cards with my UNI tokens?

I wish. 🥲

But just because you can’t buy food or entertainment with these tokens yet…

…. doesn’t mean they are utterly useless. 😅

Let’s see what exactly we can do with these DeFi tokens in our resource today:

  • Where did new tokens come from?

  • Tokens with immediate value

  • Why did Uniswap mint UNI?

And so much more! 🚀

🍼 Doodhshots: BIG Bitcoin Dump Incoming?

  • 🟣 Colour me purple: CZ’s Binance NFT marketplace finally adds support to Polygon Network. A select collection of Polygon NFTs can now be traded on the marketplace.

  • 🚽 BIG Dump incoming? The US government has partially moved the $1 BILLION worth of Bitcoin that was seized in 2021-2022 from Silk Road to Coinbase. For yield farming? 😅

  • 🤨 Query Me Anything: One of the leading data analytics firms, Nansen, has launched Query, a product that provides programmable access to blockchain datasets for crypto teams.

  • 🇧🇷 Brazilian Pilot: Brazil's CBDC initiative kicks off with a pilot launch and with a public release intended for 2024.

  • 🇷🇺 Please, Putin! The Russian Association of Crypto Industry and Blockchain (RACIB) urged Putin to ease the existing regulatory stance on cryptocurrency which results in “direct financial losses.”
